Dr. N. GEORGE UTUK, Ph.D. Pastor & Evangelist
Early Life and Background
Dr. George Utuk, a native of Nigeria, West Africa, was born into a Christian family and grew up attending mission schools throughout his formative years. His upbringing in a spiritually rich environment laid the foundation for his deep commitment to the Christian faith.
Conversion Story
Dr. Utuk’s journey of faith began in 1967 when he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior while on his way to church. This transformative experience marked the beginning of his lifelong dedication to Christian ministry.
In 1972, after answering God’s call to full-time service, Dr. Utuk left his government job to become an Evangelist under the Christian Fellowship in Nigeria. His decision to follow God’s calling set him on a path of service to the body of Christ, laying the foundation for his future ministry endeavors.
Education and Academic Pursuits
Dr. Utuk’s commitment to both spiritual and academic growth led him to pursue formal theological and academic studies. After receiving God’s call to ministry, he traveled to the United Kingdom, where he studied for three years and earned a diploma in Theology from South Wales Bible College.
In 1977, Dr. Utuk moved to the United States, where he continued his studies and earned a BA in Religion and Philosophy from Southwestern College, Kansas. His passion for understanding political systems and governance led him to pursue an MA in Political Science from Wichita State University in 1981, followed by a Ph.D. in Political Science from Atlanta University in 1988.
Ministry Beginnings and Growth
Dr. Utuk’s ministry began even before he formally entered the ministry field. While in high school, he founded “The Lilies in the Valley,” a group dedicated to reaching the unsaved. This initiative was the first of many that reflected Dr. Utuk’s heart for evangelism and discipleship. He also had the opportunity to lead students in high schools to the Lord through his personal testimony, with many of them later entering full-time ministry.
In 1972, he co-founded The Christian Fellowship of Nigeria, a pivotal organization aimed at discipling new converts. This Fellowship has since expanded and incorporated into various churches, leaving a lasting impact on the Christian community in Nigeria and beyond.
During his time in the United Kingdom and later in the United States, Dr. Utuk continued to serve by teaching, preaching, and ministering at churches and conferences. He was actively involved in the International Students Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Atlanta and served as President of the African Christian Fellowship in the United States-Atlanta Chapter from 1985 to 1988. His leadership in these capacities helped foster a strong sense of community and Christian education.
The Word of Faith Ministries
In June 1990, Dr. Utuk resigned from his teaching position to focus entirely on his calling and founded The Word of Faith Ministries. This was a significant milestone in his life, as he answered God’s leading to establish a ministry that would serve as a beacon of hope and faith to countless individuals.
Dr. Utuk is also the founder and Executive Director of The Word of Faith Ministries, Inc., and the Pastor of Abundant Life Word Fellowship.
